Yes, I’m talking about Vastu Shastra—a concept often misunderstood and limited to mere directional guidelines. Books and so-called experts will have you believe that the East is always auspicious and the South is universally inauspicious. But the truth is, nothing in Vastu is universal.
Vastu is the science of how the five natural elements interact in any physical space. These five elements—Fire (Agni), Water (Jal), Air (Vayu), Earth (Prithvi), and Space (Aakash)—exist in every structure and influence the energy of that place.
Most people mistakenly believe that Vastu is only about the structural design of a building. But that’s only the surface—real Vastu runs deeper.
Just as nature is made of five elements, so are we. These five elements within us are governed by the nine planets and twelve zodiac signs.
Wherever we go—our home, workplace, or any other location—the elements of that space interact with our personal elemental energies. If there’s harmony, we feel positive and balanced. If not, the imbalance can manifest in many areas of life.
And because each person’s planetary positions and energy makeup are unique, the experience of the same space can be entirely different for different people.
There are two types of Vastu Dosh:
(i) Structural Vastu Dosh
This occurs when the design of a building causes an elemental imbalance. It is a permanent issue of the space, but in most cases, it can be corrected without major structural changes.
(ii) Individual Vastu Dosh
This occurs when the elemental energies of the people residing or working in that space are not in harmony with the space itself. These imbalances are personal and can be corrected through planetary remedies based on the individual’s birth chart.
